Located
in the pretty village of Rothbury, on the outskirts of the Northumberland
National Park, The Queens Head Hotel provides an ideal base from
which to explore the wild and varied county of Northumberland.
Walking, mountain biking,
fishing, shooting and golf (discounts are available with most
local clubs) are popular pastimes available literally on our
front door, and which we can help arrange as required. Only 2
miles away is the National trust property of Cragside House and
Country Park, famous as the first house in the world to be lit
entirely by hydro-electricity.
A short
10 minute drive away is the ancient market town of Alnwick, famous
for its castle, bustling market place and the recently opened
Alnwick Gardens. Throughout the summer months you can catch the
annual Alnwick fair and the very popular international music
festival.
Northumberland boasts more castles and fortified houses than
any other English county. As well as Alnwick, which has been
referred to as, "The Windsor of the North", other castles worth
a visit include Bamburgh, Walkworth and the spectacular cliff-top
ruins of Dunstanburgh.
The Northumberland coastline
is as spectacular as it is varied - from rugged cliffs to stretches
of golden sandy beaches, which regularly receive the accolade
of some of the cleanest beaches in the world. Dotted along the
coastline are many seaside villages and sites to enjoy such as
Craster, Seahouses and Alnmouth.
Below is a selection of regional links to help you find out
more information about the region and the multitude of attractions
it has to offer.
We can now offer our guests discounted tickets for Alnwick Castle and Gardens so if you are planning a trip to Alnwick please let us know in advance and we can buy tickets on your behalf, this also enables you to fast track straight to the Castle/Garden omitting the queues.
